Sharon O'Neill To Stage A Comeback

New Zealand cum Aussie rock star Sharon O'Neill is about to do her first major tour in more than 14 years.

The singer-songwriter has signed on as special guest for the upcoming Leo Sayer Australian tour.

Sharon has rarely performed for the last 15 years.

In 2001, she contributed some songs to the Kiwi band When The Cat's Away and rumours circulated that she was going to perform at the Tsunami appeal concert at the Sydney Opera House earlier this year but that never eventuated.

O'Neill will perform at all shows on Sayer's upcoming tour. It will be here first Australian shows in 15 years.

Some of her best known hits are 'How Do You Talk To Boys', 'Losing You', 'Words' and 'Maxine' which was written about a prostitute from Sydney's King Cross.

Paul Stanley solo album....about fkn time!!!

The album should be done and ready to mix by mid May. Drumming on all the
tracks to date is Victor Indruzzo who has toured and recorded with Macy
Gray, toured with Beck and appears on various recordings by the Matrix
production team. Most of the guitars have been handled by Corky James who
also is heard on various recordings by the Matrix team including Avril
Lavigne. In talking about their contributions Paul raved, "Victor is just
an amazing drummer who can bash with the best of them while keeping a great
groove going." As for James, he added "Corky just blows me away with his
parts and sounds." As far as bass..."I've always been a big fan of Bruce
Kulick's bass playing so it's great to have him on some of the album."
Keyboards have been handled by Russ Irwin who has toured with both Sting
and Aerosmith. "I've known Russ for over 15 years before the KISS/Aerosmith
tour happened and his being a part of the project seemed like a natural".Of
course all the vocals are handled by Paul.

A few of the tracks recorded include "Wake Up Screaming," "Second To None"
and "Live To Win."

Paul has been collaborating with Andreas Carlsson and for the first time in
15 or so years, Desmond Child and said, "It's magic." Paul went on to add,
"From the songs to the playing and singing, everything about this album is
consistent without compromise. The album is exactly who I am now and what I
want to be doing. It's got all the sides of what I do, so it's not
surprising that it's got elements of everything I've done plus a leap into
the 21st century. I don't need to hype it. I'll leave that to everyone else
who's heard it."

DJ and presenter Vance dies after suffering a stroke

Veteran DJ Tommy Vance has died after suffering a stroke.

The 63-year old, known for his powerful voice, died this morning (March 6) from a second stroke after three days in hospital, his agent Jon Roseman confirmed.

"I had known Tommy for 35 years. He certainly had one of the most recognisable voices on radio," he said in a statement.

"He was a great bloke and he was held in very high regard for his knowledge of rock which was unsurpassed."

Vance began his career on US radio before helming shows on Radio Caroline and Radio 1. In recent years he had specialised in hosting classic rock shows, including VH1's Friday Night Rock show and Virgin Classic Rock, as well as providing voiceover for BBC2 and Channel 5 programs.

The radio personality passed away at 4am this morning after spending three days at the Durrant Valley Hospital in Kent and leaves behind two children.

"Without Tommy there will be a hole that is not going to be filled," added Roseman.

Tony Iommi new solo album with Glenn Hughes on vocals again.

Tony Iommi is said to be making great progress with his new album which features Glenn Hughes on vocals and Kenny Aronoff on drums. They’ve cut 13 tracks, all produced by Bob Marlette, who worked on Tony's first solo album in 2000 and the Sabbath "Reunion" album in 1998.

Compared to the songs on the recently released "The DEP Sessions", the new material is "more riff-oriented," Iommi told Rolling Stone. He also promised that, like its impromptu predecessor, the songs would "come together very, very quick."

The album is now at the mixing stage and discussions are taking place regarding the release date, which will be later this year. Tony is also hoping to be able to take this album out live.

Kasim Sulton will be playing bass and singing background vocals on the Patty Smyth and Scandal Tour of the US. Scandal were popular in the 80s and got together again for a taping of Bands Reunited for VH-1 in August 2004. As their bass player Ivan Aliase passed away about 15 years ago, the band who all know Kasim, asked him to play bass on the show and he was the obvious choice when they decided to tour again for the first time in 20 years.

Pete Lesperance - Down In It (one of my fave albums of the year without doubt from the Harem Scarem guitarist..great songsmith, singer and all rounder!!!)

Butch Walker - Letters (mellower but a solid album i think - certainly a grower for me)

Richard Marx - My own best enemy (good comeback from one of the most under rated artists in rock)

Australian television station Channel Nine has chosen Australian Idol runner up Shannon Noll to sing the remake of their cricket summer anthem "C'Mon Aussie C'mon". All profits go to the Red Cross's Good Start Breakfast Club -- a community initiative where more than 600 volunteers serve breakfast everyday for school children in areas of greatest need throughout Australia. The GSBC program currently serves more than 120,000 nutritious breakfasts per year consisting of toast, cereal and juice served to school children who would have otherwise gone hungry.

The original record in 1979 was cut by the Mojo Singers. The new lyrics were updated to include new cricket heroes by Nine's cricket executive producer Graeme Koos from the original penned by Alan Morris & Allan Johnson. Noll's version went to radio on Monday, following a behind the scenes of the recording airing on Nine's A Current Affair. The full video of "C'Mon Aussie C'Mon" will premiere this Wednesday, December 8 during Nine's Wide World of Sports coverage of the second one-day match between Australia and New Zealand in the Chappell Hadlee Trophy.

An electric version of Icehouse did its first live gig in 11 years -- before 80 people in Gambaro's Function Centre in Brisbane's Petrie Terrace, at a surprise retirement party for Austereo radio executive Greg Smith.

The lineup included Paul Gildea, Paul Wheeler, and David Chapman, with Steve Bull stepping in for Steve Morgan. They started with Great Southern Land, with the six-song set including Crazy, We Can Get Together, Hey Little Girl as well as the new Your God Not Mine.

Will this mark a return to the road for Icehouse? Mainman Iva Davies himself isn't crazy about touring. Yet with radio getting excited over "Your God Not Mine", there may be a distinct possibility.

Taxiride - return to reinvent the wheel.

Taxiride unveiled their new sound, new look and new line-up to a group of around 250 friends and family in Melbourne last night.

They are now a 4 piece rock band with Singh and Wild joined by Sean McCloud and Andy McIvor (both of who beefed up the live band in the last line-up). Original member Tim Watson left the band early 2005 giving founding members Jason Singh and Tim Wild the chance to reinvent the band.

The show was a nerve-racking experience for them but "we raised the bar last night" singer Jason Singh tells Undercover News.

The new sound is very much rock based with influences from Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin creeping up slowly but those tradition Taxiride hooks and harmonies remaining. "It feels like the band Taxiride instead of the entity Taxiride" Singh says.

The band is in the final throws of completing their third yet to be titled album. Since departing from Warner Music earlier this year, they are now free to shop around for a new deal.

The album will be released in early 2005.

30 years on, Skyhooks are back

It is meant to be a big secret and no one knows who the singer will be but Australian glam-rockers Skyhooks are re-forming for a one-off gig in Melbourne next week.

The occasion? The 30th anniversary of the band's debut album Living in the 70's.

While details of next Thursday's show are under wraps, saxophonist Wilbur Wilde has been giving away tickets on his show on Gold FM. Ex Daddy Cool/Mondor Rock and Skyhooks producer Ross Wilson is rumoured to be the replacement for singer Shirley Strachan, who died in a helicopter accident in 2001. Some members of the band are rumoured to have offered their services.

Living in the 70's, which will be remastered and re-released for the anniversary, was a watershed release in Australian music.

The band also broke the conservative trends of the day by wearing make-up and outrageous costumes. Many of those outfits are going on display at the Performing Arts Museum at the Arts Centre from this Saturday.

And yes the hard rockers here might be more familiar with Iron Maiden covering the
Skyhooks classic Women In Uniform.

Little River Band - one night only!

LITTLE River Band leader Stephen Housden has brokered a peace deal to avert an ARIA Awards fiasco.

Housden, owner of the LRB trademark, will allow the moniker to be used the band's for Hall of Fame honours.

His gesture has been applauded by the music industry as a breakthrough in one of rock's nastiest feuds.

It came amid a week of tense negotiations between ARIA, Housden and six so-called classic LRB members set for Hall of Fame induction.

ARIA faced the dilemma of inducting the classic six without legal permission to use the band name that helped make the musicians famous.

However, Housden has now given his blessing for ARIA to use his trademark.

It also allows the classic six -- Glenn Shorrock, Graeham Goble, Beeb Birtles, Derek Pellicci, David Briggs and George McArdle -- to perform and be honoured as Little River Band.

Housden's company, We Two Pty Ltd, grants the one-night-only licence to ARIA, production company Roving Enterprises, Network 10, and the classic six. But the gesture followed a dramatic fortnight behind the scenes.

The plan to induct the classic LRB line-up almost fell apart after suggestions the honour roll be extended.

ARIA proposed honouring 13 players who contributed to LRB from 1975 to 2004, including John Farnham, Cold Chisel's Steve Prestwich and film composer David Hirschfelder.

Late last week, the classic six threatened to boycott the awards ceremony if ARIA went ahead with the plan.

Former LRB frontman Glenn Shorrock last month insisted the classic six were the rightful honourees.

"These are the majority of people who played on the records and went through the grind," Shorrock said.

So ARIA this week held crisis talks, a boycott threat hanging over its head.

Industry heavyweights backed down on its plan to honour 13 LRB members.

Housden's blessing followed. He said the classic six can perform their hit, Help Is On Its Way, and be inducted into the Hall of Fame as LRB.

The licence is restricted to the LRB segment of the ARIA Awards, and Housden has asked seven additional players in the LRB story be recognised.

They include himself, Farnham, Prestwich, Hirschfelder, Rick Formosa, Roger McLachlan and Wayne Nelson.

"The licenser requests that the contribution of seven additional significant other members of LRB be acknowledged," Housden stated.

Guitarist Stephen Housden joined LRB in 1981 and band founders including Birtles, Shorrock and Goble eventually sold him their rights to the name. Two years ago, the Federal Court backed Housden's bid to ban Birtles, Shorrock and Goble (who perform as BSG) from using the LRB name.

Housden, on tour in the US, will not attend the ARIA ceremony.

LRB sold 30 million records. They cracked the US market in 1967, paving the way for INXS, Men At Work, Savage Garden and Jet, which is nominated for seven ARIA awards on Sunday and is expected to steal the show.

According to an article in the USA Today, KISS' "Rock the Nation" tour was one of the summer's bigger flops. Based on the figures released by Billboard Boxscore, KISS sold 49 percent of all tickets, with an average of 8,444 tickets sold per show. The hottest acts of the summer were bands like JIMMY BUFFETT, PHISH and the DAVE MATTHEWS BAND, who sold more than 20,000 tickets per show. MADONNA and PRINCE have also sold 100 percent of their tickets.

"KISS may have rang that farewell tour bell one too many times," commented Billboard's Ray Waddell. "There were only two originals. And how many times can you go to the well without offering something new and different."

Hits Daily Double reports: "How bad was this summer’s touring season? At an Aug. 4 at an Atlanta amphitheatre that seats 18,389, veteran rockers KISS — used to doing big business — sold only 4,345 tickets, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of what observers are calling 'one of the slowest summers ever.'

AC/DC fans warned to leave sign alone

Extra security measures are planned to prevent dirty deeds in the Melbourne city lane recently named after Oz hard rock legends AC/DC.

Melbourne City staff are taking measures to stop fans souveniring the new signs.

Lord Mayor John So will install the signs today at what was Corporation Lane in the block between Exhibition and Russell Streets, Melbourne, Australia.

Councillor Kimberley Kitching hoped fans would leave the signs alone. "They'll be well secured so don't even bother trying to take them." she said.

"Also, some of the bars in the lane are strong supporters of the remaining and they will be working with us to make sure the signs stay there"

CONTROVERSIAL ARIA Hall of Fame honours for former members of Little River Band have taken a dramatic turn.

Sources say ARIA is suggesting every player in the LRB success story be recognised.

These moves follow previous reports about LRB's Hall of Fame induction recently.

ARIA is giving its highest kudos to what it terms the classic line up of Little River Band, comprising Glenn Shorrock, Graeham Goble, Beeb Bertles, Derek Pellicci, David Briggs and George McArdle.

But for legal reasons, ARIA is forbidden to induct those members as LIttle River Band.

Stephen Housden an LRB guitarist from 1980s, owns the trademark and still tours under the monicker.

LRB founders, including Birtles, Shorrock and Goble, sold their rights to the band name to Housden. ARIA insiders say that the ruling will apply at the Hall of Fame induction.

"The men being recognised for their work in LRB cannot legally called LRB," a source said. But in further developments, ARIA has suggested honouring all who played under the LRB name. That would boost the honour role by 21 names, including that of John
Farnham, who served as singer in LRB from 1982 to 1986 and releasing aor classic album - Playing to Win.

Other former members include Steve Prestwich of Cold Chisel, and film composer David Hirschfelder also known for his work with Farnham.

LRB have sold 30 million records. They cracked the US market in 1976, paving the way for Australian artists like INXS, Men at Work, Savage Garden and Jet.

POP legends Little River Band will be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame on October 17.

But those in line for the honour cannot be referred to by the band name that shot them to international success.

ARIA is giving its highest kudos to what it terms the classic line-up of Little River Band.

"ARIA will say these men achieved great things," a source said. "But they are not allowed to be LRB."

Glenn Shorrock, former LRB frontman, said the situation was a debacle. "I don't know how we are going to deal with it on the night," Shorrock frowned, "but as Confucius once said, 'F--- 'em!'

"It's nuts, it's silly, but I refuse to let it take over my life.

"That said, the LRB saga never goes away."

Shorrock said the band's Hall of Fame induction was overdue.

"For the public at large, it's recognition of something we did reasonably quietly.

"We never jumped up on the podium saying, 'Look what we did'.

"But we certainly achieved a lot. LRB was a real milestone in the evolution of Australian music internationally. And I am proud it will be recognised as such."

Shorrock is happy with the classic line-up receiving the honour.

"These are the majority of people who played on the records and went through the grind."

Housden's lawyer has been contacted about the ARIA plan. Housden, who lives in Ireland, is yet to respond.

Sources said Housden would be unwise to block the Hall of Fame honours.

"Nobody in their right mind would go there," a source said. "They would have the entire music industry coming down on them."

Little River Band has sold 30 million records worldwide.

The band cracked the US market in 1976, paving the way for Air Supply, Men at Work and INXS.

Their track Reminiscing is still ranked one of the most played songs on US radio.

the tongue wagging bassist of Kiss, is considering an appearance on the reality show. On his website, Simmons says the program's producers have asked him to join the queer ones for an episode. "They called me and asked me if I would do it," simmons says. "I'm a fan of the show. We may shoot on September 28."

In other Kiss band related news KISS will be issuing a brand-new 40-track two-CD anthology, entitled "Gold Sound+Vision", on October 5 through Universal. Former DEEP PURPLE/BLACK SABBATH singer Glenn Hughes will release his first-ever DVD, entitled "Soulfully Live In The City Of Angels", on September 20 through Frontiers Records in Europe, Marquee/Avalon in Japan, Hellion Records in Brazil and Cleopatra Records in North America later in the fall. Also included in the package will be a double live audio CD.

"Soulfully Live In The City Of Angels" was filmed live on January 11, 2004 before an audience of friends and selected regulars from www.glennhughes.com. Those lucky enough to have attended the intimate setting at Sound Image studios in North Hollywood, California witnessed the bassist/vocalist's current band of longtime guitarist JJ Marsh, second guitarist George Nastos, keyboardist Ed Roth and none other than RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith. Helping out on backing vocals were former QUIET RIOT singer Kevin DuBrow and ex-SANTANA man Alex Ligertwood.

Australian Idol finalist/drop out Cosima De Vito has recorded her debut album written and produced by aor songstress/hitmaker Diane Warren. De Vito's debut single which has been released independently by De Vito(family, friends and a large bank loan financially backing the release) has done the unthinkable and marched straight to the number one position of the Australian music charts.

The debut single is a double A side featuring 'One Night Without You' (written by Diane Warren) and her version of Cold Chisel's 'When The War Is Over' (only available on this single). The tracks are from Cosima's forthcoming album (due out October 2004) which has been written in the US by Grammy winner, Diane Warren, who is also the album's executive producer.

Fans of a gutsier Celine Dion styled aor might be interested in this one.

Thin Lizzy takes best live album!

Music fans have voted for their favourite live rock album of all time - Thin Lizzy's Live and Dangerous.

The album was recorded by the Irish band famed for hits such as The Boys Are Back In Town, in 1978. Strangers in the Night, released a year later by UFO, comes second in the poll for Britain's Classic Rock Magazine.

Made in Japan, by Deep Purple, which was once credited as the world's loudest band came third in the list of 10.

If You Want Blood, You've Got It, by AC/DC came fourth, followed by Led Zeppelin's How the West Was Won.

The Who's Live at Leeds, recorded in 1970, is sixth followed by the Judas Priest Unleashed In The East (1979)

AC/DC - Honoured with Sidestreet to Hell?

The Australian Melbourne City Council is considering changing the name of Corporation lane to AC/DC Lane. The side street just off the city's main Swanston Street, where some 30 years ago, the band shot the video for single "It's A Long Way To The Top"
playing live on the back of a flatbed truck.

Fans of AC/DC and rock movies should check out light hearted comedy Thunderstruck
which is the story of five fans who make a pact during AC/DC's Australian tour in 1991 that if one of them dies before they reach 40 the others will bury him beside the grave of AC/DC's late singer, Bon Scott. The movie has recently been taken out of cinemas in Australia and should soon be available on dvd.

Square One - debut album complete from down under pop rockers

With a fistful of bias it's great to see hometown Melbourne melodic rockers Square One complete work on their debut album "Supersonic" produced by Endel Rivers at Australia's Palm Studios. Mastering was handled by ex Little River Band guitarist/writer David Briggs. After receiving demo of the year status for the past two years running from the likes of UK Powerplay Magazine the band will shortly announce a European label which should see their album finally released later in the year.

Fans of pop styled melodic rock in the vein of Taxiride, Vertical Horizon, 9 Days meets Life-era Nelson and Def Leppard should find something of interest in the all singing/harmonizing Square One - especially the excellent lead vocals of Jason Old.

Taxiride - Wheels fall off?

Despite an excellent second album in Garage Mahal which spawned the hit single "Creeping Up Slowly" seems Australian pop rock supremos Taxiride have been axed by the Warner label who have ditched a large slice of it's Oz artist roster. Certainly not a good sign for Australian music.

The axing follows the recent departure of guitarist/vocalist/keyboardist Tim "Watto" Watson who quit the band for personal reasons.

Word is main vocalist Jason Singh will keep the Taxiride flame alight and is recording demos for a new album and label deal.

Killing Heidi - I Am

Dream Evil - the book of heavy metal

When it comes to classic metal this bunch of Swedes seem to have it down pat and by rights you would think they really should be Germans which I guess would be a huge market for them. This is their third album consolidates all they have done with their past releases bringing home another ball tearer of old school metal album seemingly paying homage to the likes of Accept, Ozzy, Priest, Dio and the like.

Some switched-on musicianship especially from man mountain talent
Gus G. on guitar, drummer Snowy Shaw and under rated vocals from
Niklas Isfeldt especially deserving of respect!

Some may argue Dream Evil be cheesy in the true metal sword held high and loin cloth tight around the knackers style but to my mind I'd rather listen to this than the oh, we dont take ourselves too seriously yet i hate the world nu metal angst that has become so faceless and embarrassing it dont even warrant a giggle anymore. Death to false metal!
